Australia captain Michael Clarke has been ruled out of Friday's Commonwealth Bank Series clash with Sri Lanka in Sydney after suffering a hamstring strain in the four-wicket defeat to India.
Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: "Michael Clarke sustained a low grade right hamstring strain in the ODI versus in India in Adelaide on Sunday. He had scans today (Monday) that confirmed the low grade nature of the injury.
"He will not recover in time to play in Australia's next Commonwealth Bank Series game on Friday in Sydney against Sri Lanka but I will assess him later this week and decide on his availability for the game in Brisbane on Sunday 19 February against India."
Australia's selection panel will name the squad for the next block of tri-series matches on Tuesday, having previously only named a squad for the first three games.
David Warner has served as Clarke's deputy during the one-day series to date, and is also Australia's vice-captain in Twenty20 cricket, making him the most likely stand-in.
The official vice-captain Shane Watson is making a slow and steady recovery from his own leg muscle problems.
Meanwhile Brad Haddin, who deputise in the Test series, has seen Matthew Wade made a strong case for retention after taking over the wicketkeeping gloves to afford Haddin a rest in Australia's first three one-dayers.
