West Indies' youngsters claimed victory over Australia by seven wickets in the first international Twenty20 match to be played in the Caribbean.

Led by all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, the inexperienced hosts did well to restrict the tourists to 97-3 in the first innings in a match reduced to 11 overs per side after rain delayed the start in Barbados.

And it was Bravo who struck the winning runs, finishing on 28 not out after opener Xavier Marshall had set the Kensington Oval alight with a blistering innings of 36.

The Aussies started well with rookie pairing Shaun Marsh and Luke Ronchi (36 from 22) putting on 57 for the first wicket in six overs, the latter particularly severe on home attack before holing out off the bowling of debutant Kemar Roach.

Marsh also fell to Roach after hitting 29 off 22 deliveries, Marshall taking a fine catch on the boundary, before Bravo removed David Hussey second ball.

The wickets served to slow up the tourists although Shane Watson and Cameron White added an unbeaten 25 fofr the fourth wicket to take the Aussies to 97-3.

But Marshall took a particular liking to Mitchell Johnson, who went for 21 in his first over, as he struck three fours and as many sixes in a destructive 15-ball knock.

But he was run out in the fourth over when Watson's shy at the stumps left him out his ground, and just six runs were added when William Perkins was also run out after smart work from Ricky Ponting.

West Indies required a run a ball but Dinesh Ramdin confused matters further when he holed out to Johnson off the bowling of Watson.

But captain Dwayne Bravo held his nerve and benefited from some wayward bowling to hit three sixes as well as a boundary, clearing the rope a third time to take his side past the Australian total with 11 balls remaining.
