New Zealand got their tour to England off to a winning start on Monday, beating Derbyshire by a hefty 107 runs in their three-day tour match at the County Ground.

The Black Caps XI had declared overnight on 199 for five after day two, leaving the Derbyshire side 355 runs to get in one day and requiring 10 wickets themselves. The fast bowlers did the trick, with Neil Wagner taking five scalps.

The home side's unenviable task was made impossible by the regular loss of wickets, with last week's double centurion Chesney Hughes falling for just 15 runs, caught behind off Wagner in the 12th over.

Billy Godleman fell just five runs later, also to Wagner, leaving Wayne Madsen and Wes Durston to pick up the pieces. They put together 33 runs together at a slow pace, before Bruce Martin got the first of his two wickets, bowling skipper Madsen.

Two further wickets fell cheaply after that, before Dan Redfern and Richard Johnson kept the game going into the latter stages of the day. Redfern top scored for the hosts, making 58 off 70 balls, before being dismissed by Wagner.

The tail was wrapped up after tea by Doug Bracewell, Wagner and Martin, with only Peter Burgoyne providing resistance with a stubborn 30. They were all out for 227 in the 68th over.

The Kiwis will face a sterner test when they come up against the England Lions at Leicester, the game starting on 9 May.
