Mike Hussey's retirement has left a vacant spot in Australia's Test squad and his brother David admits he would love to take his place in the team.

The 37-year-old Mike's decision to call time on his international career during the recent Australia-Sri Lanka Test series has left a massive void in the team and several players have been already been mooted as possible replacements, including his brother David, who is more accustomed to playing in the limited-overs side.

David, though, admits he is eager to get his hands on a Baggy Green cap, providing he pulls off a couple of good performances.

"I think every time you play for Australia you want to do well, you want to contribute to team success," he said.

"Everyone has talked about replacing Mike in the Test squad. For me I just want to do well and contribute to the team success and hopefully win a series against Sri Lanka, that's all I'm really focusing on.

"The ball is in my court and I'm looking forward to taking the opportunity with both hands."

David, who has played 64 ODI games for his country, will get a chance to impress the selectors during the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, starting at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

The 35-year-old all-rounder has vowed to go out there and have a bit of fun.

"A few times I've played for Australia in the past I've had a few regrets and didn't really play the way I wanted to play," he said.

"This time I'm just going to have a lot of fun and enjoy myself and play with no regrets and freedom.

"I probably haven't done quite as well as I wanted to, haven't finished games off like the way I wanted to finish games off and win games of cricket for Australia.

"This time, fresh mind, new opportunity and play with no regrets.

"I haven't really shown the world that I can play and I think this is a great opportunity to do that."
