Fast bowler Dale Steyn has been cleared of a broken hand - and will be available for the remainder of South Africa's ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Steyn suffered a hand injury during the fifth over of Wednesday's second ODI, dropping a sharp return catch offered by batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan.

He left the field for treatment immediately, with the over completed by spinner JP Duminy.

"Steyn has suffered severe bruising on his right hand. He will go for a precautionary X-ray as it's his bowling hand," tweeted Cricket South Africa initially, but later revealed: "Good news, X-rays show no fracture to Steyn's hand. Still has severe bruising, so won't come back to field and will only bat if needed."

The third and final ODI will be played in Hambantota on Saturday. Two Tests - in Galle and Colombo - will follow.
