Cheteshwar Pujara
4 matches, 7 inns, 438 runs @ 87.60, 2x100, 0x50
The lone highlight amid an otherwise decrepit batting order, has well and truly rendered the gap left by the retirement of Rahul Dravid null and void. His follow-up ton in Mumbai to the double-century in Ahmedabad was a particular delight. C365 Rating: 9.5/10

Virender Sehwag
4 matches, 7 inns, 253 runs @ 36.14, 1x100, 0x50
A quickfire century in the series opener promised much, only for the hard-hitting opener to under deliver in Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur. Perhaps there was room for the accommodation of Ajinkya Rahane or Murali Vijay at the top of the knock, and Sehwag's demotion down the order, after all. C365 Rating: 5/10

Sachin Tendulkar
4 matches, 6 inns, 112 runs @ 18.66, 0x100, 1x50
This is turning out to be a sad end to an otherwise joyful career, and it really is time for Tendulkar to leave on his own terms - before the selectors force him out. His dour series statistics were only saved from further horror by a standalone half-century at Eden Gardens. C365 Rating: 3/10

Gautam Gambhir
4 matches, 6 inns, 251 runs @ 41.83, 0x100, 2x50
Alleged rift with captain Dhoni aside, Gambhir remains the rock at the top of the Test knock. At least two of his 45, 65, 60, 40 and 37 should have been converted to three-figure proportions, though. At 31 years old, Gambhir is one crucial investment India can't afford to discard at a crucial juncture in their Test future.C365 Rating: 7.5/10

Virat Kohli
4 matches, 7 inns, 188 runs @ 31.33, 1x100, 0x50
An innings-saving century in Nagpur will marginally stave off questions around his value to the Test XI, but really Kohli was largely found wanting this time around. Near unrivalled in limited-overs cricket, impatience often proves his undoing in the five-day fold. C365 Rating: 6.5/10

Yuvraj Singh
3 matches, 5 inns, 125 runs @ 25.00, 0x100, 1x50
A romanticised return soon turned into an unceremonious dumping, with Yuvraj's recuperation from cancer not allowing him the stamina for five days of hard-fought Test match competition. This won't be the last we'll hear from him in the Test arena, though. C365 Rating: 4/10

Mahendra Singh Dhoni
4 matches, 6 inns, 191 runs @ 31.83, 0x100, 2x50, 9xct, 1xst
This series result will certainly force a rethink for Dhoni, as to his commitment to all three formats. One of them surely has to go, and the character of the man will determine which. The pressure isn't likely to relent soon either, with a historic limited-overs affair against arch rivals Pakistan quickly nearing. C365 Rating: 7/10

Ravichandran Ashwin
4 matches, 14 wkts @ 52.64, BB: 3/80, 4 inns, 243 runs @ 60.75
India's long wait for a genuine Test all-rounder, at least, is over. Unfortunately, though, at the expense of his primary role. Ashwin wasn't at his best this series, and would have been criticised more had Ojha not stepped up in such a successful manner. C365 Rating: 8/10

Ravindra Jadeja
1 match, 3 wkts @ 39.00, BB: 2/58, 1 inns, 12 runs @ 12.00
Three triple-centuries in the past 13 months ultimately amounted to a mere 12 runs in one knock on the big stage, and Dhoni really didn't inspire confidence in the rookie by batting him at seven rather than the scheduled six in Nagpur. The all-rounder kept Kevin Pietersen honest, though, removing him twice - to keep alive the Englishman's supposed inadquacies against left-arm spinners. C365 Rating: 6/10

Pragyan Ojha
4 matches, 20 wkts @ 30.85, BB: 5/45
20 wickets in a four-match series loss is no mean feat, and Ojha's underrated finger spin is now thoroughly entrenched in India's Test XI. No more deliberating over Amit Mishra's return or Harbhajan's stay required. C365 Rating: 9/10

Harbhajan Singh
1 match, 2 wkts @ 42.00, BB: 2/74
Harbhajan's wait for a 100th Test cap continues, and probably won't reach the milestone, given the relative success of his contemporaries. Unfortunate not to be at least named in the fourth Test squad, not necessarily the XI, which probably spelled the end of his career for good.C365 Rating: 5/10

Piyush Chawla
1 match, 4 wkts @ 33.25, BB: 4/69
Termed the 'luckiest Indian alive' after gaining a Test recall on the back of a rather average first-class season, Chawla's attacking guile served him well enough in Nagpur regardless. For their attacking leg-spinner to thrive, though, India need to invest in a long-term berth in the XI - rather than one-off, stopgap selection. C365 Rating: 5/10

Ishant Sharma
2 matches, 4 wkts @ 42.25, BB: 3/49
Forced to the fore in the wake of Zaheer's fall from favour and Yadav's injury, Ishant did his talent justice. Extracting life out of a rather listless Eden Gardens deck and bounce from a dull Nagpur surface, the right-armer showed that his problematic ankle is an inconvenience of the past.C365 Rating: 7.5/10

Zaheer Khan
3 matches, 4 wkts @ 53.25, BB: 2/59
Enduring an average some 20 runs fatter than his career aggregate, it was just a matter of time before the axe fell on the aging veteran. A veritable non-entity when the ball is not swinging, and slower than most at the age of 34 years old, Zaheer is too much of a liability for India to keep around. C365 Rating: 4/10

Umesh Yadav
1 match, 4 wkts @ 21.00, BB: 3/70
How different the series result might have read had Yadav not been sidelined by injury after the series opener in Ahmedabad, where he genuinely troubled the opposition batsmen.C365 Rating: 8.5/10
