Mudgal tasked with new IPL investigation
Former India High Court judge Mukul Mudgal has been tasked with a further investigation into match fixing in the Indian Premier League, and must hand a sealed report into the Supreme Court by the end of August.
Former India High Court judge Mukul Mudgal has been tasked with a further investigation into match fixing in the Indian Premier League, and must hand a sealed report into the Supreme Court by the end of August.
He will be assisted by L Nageswara Rao, Nilay Dutta, and former IPS officer BB Mishra, the first two having been part of the original investigation. Mishra will have the help of three top-ranking detectives, and will report to Mudgal.
The BCCI had originally asked for an entirely new panel to be formed, as they disagreed with Mudgal's original findings of corruption, but the Supreme Court rejected that motion.
The panel will "have the powers to investigate, require attendance of witnesses, the power to search and the power to seize… except the power to arrest and the source of these powers of investigation will be this order passed by the court".
In the mean time, the BCCI will continue to be led by Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav, with N Srinivasan sidelined until the end of the investigation. It will go before court again in the first week of September.
