Marcus Trescothick smashed 34 off 17 balls to pave the way for Somerset's seven-wicket Twenty20 Cup win over Worcestershire at Taunton.
The Royals looked to have set a challenging target in 176 for eight after losing the toss. Ben Smith hit 44 off 24 balls and there were brisk contributions from Moeen Ali (44) and Stephen Moore (40).
But Trescothick got the Sabres off to a roaring start in reply, hitting four fours and two sixes and sharing an opening stand of 61 inside six overs with Justin Langer, who went on to make 44.
After the pair were out James Hildreth (48 not out) and Craig Kieswetter (31no) produced some exhilarating strokes to see their side home with a full over to spare.
Hildreth was named man of the match after hitting three fours and two sixes in his 37-ball innings, while Kieswetter faced only 17 deliveries and hit three fours and a six.
Charl Willoughby (two wickets for 24) ensured there were few easy runs early on in the Royals' innings, bowling his four overs straight through from the Old Pavilion End and removing Steven Davies lbw with a full-length ball and Vikram Solanki (21) to a catch at mid-wicket off a full toss.
At the end of the six-over fielding restrictions the visitors had only 37 on the board and a modest score looked likely when the total moved to 69 after 10.
Moore hit three fours and a six before top-edging an attempted pull shot off a Peter Trego full toss, which must have been close to a no ball, and it was 82 for three.
But Smith was then dropped on eight by Max Waller off Alfonso Thomas and he and Moeen began to cut loose. The scoring rate rocketed as they reached 129 before Moeen looked for a suicidal third run and was run out by Waller's throw to the bowler's end from deep cover.
Moeen's 36 came off 23 balls and Smith was even quicker, hitting three fours and two sixes before also being run out by Waller with the score on 155.
Ashley Noffke added a six and a four and it needed two wickets in the final over, bowled by Thomas, to keep the total below 180.
