New Zealand pace ace Chris Martin is expected to conquer some milestones during the Kiwis' tour of Sri Lanka in August but the ever-modest bowler admits that records are not his main priority.
Martin is likely to overtake former fast bowler Danny Morrison as the county's fourth-highest wicket-taker as well as receive his 50th Test cap in the process.
"That's the sort of figure that gives you some standing on the world scene, and I'd like to try for that. Overtaking Danny will be good, but it's not been particularly high on the list," Martin told stuff.co.nz
The recalled 34-year-old recently featured in two matches in the Emerging Players Tournament and reckons this experience will aid his return to international competition.
"It's good to have that outdoor work under our belts so that when we go into the two warm-up games before the Tests, it makes a big difference mentally. It's good getting some mileage into the legs."
Martin hopes the conditions on the sub-continent will help him to swing the ball.
"At least the breeze should get up a bit there. In Colombo the air just doesn't move and the humidity makes it pretty tough going. The last time we were there the temperature ranged between 30d and 35 degrees celsius and you just don't stop sweating."
The paceman admits that a series draw would be satisfactory against Sri Lanka, who will be buoyed by recent Test and ODI series victories over Pakistan.
"They are pretty experienced and have some quality players. If we could sneak a win that would be great, but a drawn series wouldn't be a bad outcome."
