England will on Monday reveal their one-day squads for the next two months with Andrew Flintoff included but Kevin Pietersen ruled out through injury.
The party for both the NatWest Series and Champions Trophy are anticipated to be the same 15 names with Pietersen, 29, not considered after suffering a setback in his recovery from Achilles surgery last week.
However, Lancashire all-rounder Flintoff, England's other A-list player, will feature ahead of having further fitness assessments.
England play seven one-day internationals against Australia next month and then travel to the tournament in South Africa on September 21.
The 31-year-old is on course to feature in his 79th and final Test against the Australians in the Ashes decider this week and could yet be forced to have knee surgery in the aftermath.
But he will be included in the hope that his troublesome right knee settles down following an initial operation earlier this summer.
Squad lists for the Champions Trophy must be lodged with the International Cricket Council by August 23 - although injured players can be replaced after this date on appeal.
Following a lengthy meeting of the four-man selection panel and captain Andrew Strauss at Trent Bridge last Friday, it was decided minimal changes across the limited-overs assignments would be beneficial to England's development.
That means that, in addition to the same men being named for the NatWest Series against Australia and the Champions Trophy, that nucleus will also be used for the two Twenty20 contests with the Australians and the one-day international against Ireland.
Originally England were intent on sending a shadow side to Belfast a week tomorrow, only a matter of hours after the conclusion of the Ashes.
However, only three or four senior players will miss the trip in a bid for continuity.
Captain Strauss, Flintoff, Paul Collingwood and James Anderson are tipped to sit out the August 27 date.
In Strauss' absence, England could look for Alastair Cook to cut his teeth as an international captain or call in Kent's Robert Key.
Both men were named in the provisional 30-man squad for the Champions Trophy while Ed Joyce, who made his England debut against his former Irish team-mates three years ago, will also come into the reckoning for a batting place.
Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan, meanwhile, would be the most obvious replacement for Flintoff in any of the limited-overs formats.
With players such as Strauss not considered for the 20-over side and the emphasis on all-rounders emphasised by Pakistan's triumph at the World Twenty20, England will consider recalling Sussex's Luke Wright and Graham Napier, of Essex, as specialists.
England (possible): AJ Strauss (captain, Middlesex), RS Bopara, MJ Prior (wkt), IR Bell, OA Shah, PD Collingwood, EJG Morgan, A Flintoff, AD Mascarenhas, GP Swann, AU Rashid, SCJ Broad, RJ Sidebottom, JM Anderson, SJ Harmison.
