Nottinghamshire must fight back strongly tomorrow if they are to grab an unlikely victory over bottom club Worcestershire and stay in touch with leaders Durham in County Championship LV Division One.

Second-placed Notts conceded a 115-run first-innings deficit when they were bowled out for only 219 on day three at New Road, where the hosts' young seam attack was led by Imran Arif (five for 93).

Worcestershire lost early wickets to Andre Adams (three for 48) second time round but still closed on 176 for five at stumps after a stand of 142 between Moeen Ali and Steve Davies.

Somerset are the only other team still capable of making Durham fight for a second successive title - but they too did not make the most of their opportunity, on day one against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

After the hosts chose to bat first, Jimmy Adams put on century stands with his fellow opener Liam Dawson and then number three Michael Lumb - out of 286 for four by the close.

Adams' share was an unbeaten 113, with 21 fours from 284 balls faced.

Avoiding relegation is the motivation for Warwickshire and Yorkshire at Scarborough, where the visitors began day two on 53 for four but finished it in a much more advantageous position.

Wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose (113) hit 21 fours from 150 balls to be the cornerstone of Warwickshire's 320 all out - despite the seven wickets shared by seamers Ajmal Shahzad and Deon Kruis.

India fast bowler Sreesanth then took four for 36 as Yorkshire struggled to 100 for seven.

In Division Two, James Foster (103no) augmented the gains made for Essex by John Maunders on day one. Wicketkeeper Foster hit 13 fours and a six from 160 balls as the promotion chasers piled up 517 for nine declared against Leicestershire at Chelmsford, opener Maunders adding just eight runs today before he was out for 150.

At stumps, Leicestershire's reply was worth 93 for two - both wickets falling, ominously, to leg-spinner Danish Kaneria after an opening stand of 83.

Northamptonshire turned their overnight 224 against Glamorgan at Wantage Road into 350 all out.

Stephen Peters added another 39 runs this morning to finish with 20 fours from 199 balls in his 163. His fifth-wicket stand with Andrew Hall eventually realised 191, and Robert Croft and James Harris each took three wickets.

On day one at Lord's, there were half-centuries for debutant Adam London and opener Sam Robson in Middlesex's 307 for six against Gloucestershire.
