Kevin Pietersen was hit with a speeding fine on Thursday after taking a Lamborghini for a drive around Melbourne on a day off from England training.

The 30-year-old was apparently fined 239 Australian dollars for driving at more than 120kmh in a 100kmh zone during an outing along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

"He (Pietersen) did pick up a speeding fine," an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman confirmed.

Pietersen was given some time off after his man-of-the-match performance in the second Ashes Test, in which he made a career-best 227 as England beat Australia by an innings.

He will be rested for England's tour match against Victoria on Friday, and had the Lamborghini outing arranged for him by Shane Warne, who is a publicity ambassador for Lamborghini.

Prior to being stopped, Pietersen tweeted: "Great Ocean Road today ..."

Once under way, he added: "Stunning beaches on The Great Ocean Rd.. Gorgeous drive."

The ECB confirmed that no disciplinary action will be taken against him.
