Spinner Michael Beer has admitted even he isn't sure if he is ready for his debut in the third Ashes Test in Perth on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Beer, who has played only five first-class games, was a shock inclusion in the hosts' 12-man squad for the match against England and most of the media Down Under believe he will make his debut in Perth this week.

When asked by reporters if he was ready for the match, Beer answered: "That is a hard one.

"I am looking forward to the challenge and hopefully... I am confident in my own ability in a contest and hopefully that comes out shining.

"I love a challenge and I am just running off that. I think it is just knowing my role and executing it as best I can."

Left-armer Beer has picked up 16 wickets at just under 40 for his adopted state Western Australia. However, he believes he has improved in recent months and is convinced that playing in the warm-up game against England last month will count in his favour.

"I am (better) at a number of things, from on the field, the way I bowl, to my professionalism off the field," he said.

"There are a number of things I have worked on and I hope to keep improving.

"I think it [the game against England] will definitely help, being in the same surroundings and I'll take a fair bit out of that contest I had with them.

"I enjoyed that and learnt from it."

Beer knows the Perth track very well and feel there will be plenty of assistance for the spinners.

"The WACA pitch, I've (played) three or four games there now, and there is something there for spin bowlers... every time I've played there there's been something there, so I am looking forward to it," he told AAP.

"Obviously the wind, the Fremantle Doctor, comes in and definitely plays a part, but that's for all bowlers, not just spin bowlers."
