Rob White smashed an unbeaten century to guide Northamptonshire to their second win of the season and left Gloucestershire rooted to the bottom of the LV County Championship Division Two table.

The 28-year-old hit a magnificent 132 not out for his second ton of the season and was ably supported by skipper Nicky Boje's 59 in a fourth-wicket stand of 146.

South African all-rounder Boje and David Lucas had earlier set up the victory target by ripping through the Gloucestershire tail as they slipped from 115 for four to 142 all out.

Northants had taken four late wickets on day three to give themselves a sniff of victory and they began the final day in the same manner.

It took Boje's side just 12 overs to snap up the remaining six wickets as the visiting batsmen capitulated.

They had added just three runs to their overnight total of 115 for four when Chris Taylor was clean bowled by Boje for 34.

Steven Snell soon followed for a duck when he nibbled at Lucas and was caught by Andrew Hall in the slips.

Boje then struck again when he had Hamish Marshall caught behind for 46 and he had a fourth wicket when Matthew Gitsham gave him a return catch four overs later.

Lucas then wrapped up the innings by removing visiting skipper Jon Lewis for one and Anthony Ireland for a duck to finish with career best figures of five for 30.

Northants openers Niall O'Brien and Stephen Peters began the chase steadily and had added 54 before Ireland found Peters' edge and Marshall held on to a sharp catch in the gully to send him on his way for 34.

O'Brien followed soon after for 22 when Gitsham trapped him in front for 22 but White and former skipper David Sales dug in to get the chase back on track.

Sales raced to 29 in 48 balls as he added 64 for the third wicket but Lewis ended his innings when he had him lbw.

But that blow could not knock White, who was joined by Boje, off his stride and he went to 50 soon after tea before smashing Mark Hardinges over mid-on for six as Northants cut loose.

Boje joined in the fun and raced to a boundary-laden 50 in just 45 balls as he passed 500 runs for the summer.

The Gloucestershire attack was looking demoralised and the Northants batsmen took full advantage.

White, who took 95 balls to reach 50, took just 34 more balls to bring up the fourth century of his career.

Boje was finally removed for 59 when Hardinges ran him out but it was too little too late for Gloucester as White hit the winning runs to lead Northants to a comfortable victory with 13 overs to spare.
