Australia will be a bowler short as they prepare for the second Test against India in Hyderabad, after fast bowler Jackson Bird was ruled out of the rest of the tour with a lower back stress injury.
Bird was sent back Down Under for scans in Melbourne, and would have rejoined the squad if the injury wasn't too serious, but it has been confirmed that he will not be jetting back to the sub-continent.
Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said: "Initial tests performed in Melbourne have confirmed that Jackson Bird has a bone stress injury of the low back. He will undergo further tests tomorrow [Thursday]. He will not be re-joining the team in India."
The selectors have not said whether anyone will be sent to replace Bird, meaning Mitchell Johnson is the only pace bowler on the sidelines should anyone else pick up an injury.
