Centurions Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan basked in a very successful pursuit, as India beat Australia by six wickets in Wednesday's sixth ODI at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur.
The Australians posted a formidable total of 350 for six on the back of all-rounder Shane Watson's 102 and captain George Bailey's 156. The tally, however, was not enough – as Kohli's 115 and Dhawan's 100 ensured triumph with three deliveries to spare.
"It was nice to win. Shikhar ave us a good start. I got going with couple of drives and the slog sweep. I told Shikhar to play through and I would attack as he was suffering with cramps. I always like to analyse when a target is given," said Kohli.
The hard-hitting Dhawan shared a prolific 178-run alliance inside 30 overs alongside fellow opener Rohit Sharma, who scored 79 before falling to part-time bowler Aaron Finch. Dhawan's knock featured 11 boundaries and afforded Kohli an outstanding foundation.
The right-handed Kohli was named Man of the Match – thanks to a superb vigil that spanned a mere 66 deliveries, lined with all of 18 boundaries and a solitary six. The seventh and final ODI will get underway at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday.
"We batted really well. It was a big target. But the wicket was good and we kept rotating the strike. The plan was to keep playing our shots and do our job. I should have stayed and finished the match for my team. It was a really bad shot selection on my part when I got out. Hopefully I will be able to do it next time," concluded Dhawan.
