Stanlake out of IPL with fractured finger

Australia paceman Billy Stanlake has returned to his home country after fracturing his pinky finger in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against the Super Kings last Sunday.

The injury may require surgery but Cricket Australia are confident the white ball star will be fit for Australia’s limited overs tour of England later this year.

The 23-year-old will consult a surgeon when he arrives back in Australia.

With both Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins currently sidelined with injury Stanlake was shaping up to be a key member of the touring group with the selectors having one eye on the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom.

Stanlake has made a big impression in the Big Bash League that saw him earn ODI and T20I debuts in 2017.

Regrettably the talented quick has garnered the reputation of being injury prone with persistent back problems preventing him from playing more than two first class games since 2015.

Stanlake was one of seven fast bowlers named on Australia’s central contract list in early April.

Australia are set to announce their squad for the England tour next month, and will also name their new ODI captain who will take over from the banned Steve Smith.
