Hathurusingha keen to expand Sri Lanka’s depth
Chandika Hathurusingha is keen to expand Sri Lanka’s player depth after enjoying a successful tour to Bangladesh in his first stint as head coach.
Sri Lanka won an ODI tri-series trophy, also involving Zimbabwe, beat the hosts one-nil in the Test series and then completed the tour with two convincing performances in the T20 format.
Besides bringing a winning culture back to Sri Lanka cricket, Hathurusingha who coached the Tigers from 2014 until late last year, also wants to give players opportunities to stake a claim for regular berths in the starting line-up.

Hathurusingha said on arrival back in Sri Lanka: “We want a big pool of players for us to compete against different countries and different opposition, depending on their limitations and strengths.
“All the players get an equal opportunity and they will definitely know where they stand when it comes to selection.
“With me, I don’t think you will see the same team too often. Of course the players that perform have the assurance of their places in the team, but will always try and see the best combination that can win games.
“It’s not that we’re trying to play with just eleven players for the next two years.”
Sri Lanka’s next task is a T20 tri-series at home against Bangladesh and India that starts early next month.
