Host Broadcasters Channel Nine have confirmed the use of the new technology – and the thermal-imaging device – ahead of the series opener, which will get underway at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday.

The announcement, expected last month, was delayed after prolonged negotiations between the Australia and England teams, the International Cricket Council, broadcasters and BBG Sports – the company who develop and provide the equipment.

"Real-time Snicko will be part of the DRS. Both teams' boards have agreed to do it. We had a difficult negotiation, with BBG Sports, but thankfully we've come together. We're thrilled to have Hot Spot continue as part of the coverage, Cricket Australia's official website quoted Channel Nine's executive producer of cricket Brad McNamara as saying.

"We're all about the best technology in the world. We feel that is among it and are looking forward to adding to that with the real-time Snicko, which we think will add to the viewers' experience and also help in the decision-making process for umpires. It will change the DRS. We hope you won't get the mistakes."

Hot Spot was not available for Pakistan and South Africa's drawn Test series in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.
