Newell: This is my last England chance

Nottinghamshire coach Mick Newell, the longest-serving coach in County cricket, says he is getting a bit old to go for the England job again, if he doesn't get it this time around.

Newell is on the shortlist of coaches in the hunt for the England head coaching job, with Peter Moores the current media favourite, and Newell says he would love to get the post as it is the 'ultimate'.

Newell told ESPNcricinfo: "It probably is a question of now or never for me. I'm 49 now and, by the time England look again, I can see them thinking I may be too old.

"It's likely to be at least three years before the chance comes around again, isn't it? I haven't been told when the interviews will take place yet, but yes, I have been asked for an interview and I expect it will be in the next week or two. Maybe even the end of this week.

"I have a great job here at Nottinghamshire. But the England role is the ultimate for an English coach. I'm sure any coach will tell you they would love to work with the very best players their country has to offer."

Originally, limited-overs coach Ashley Giles was favourite to take over from Andy Flower, who quit after the Ashes tour to Australia. But the side's ODI and T20 form has been so poor, that Lancashire's Moores is now thought to be the man to beat.
