Bell: Trott still has plenty to offer England

Batsman Ian Bell is confident Jonathan Trott will eventually return to the England Test team.

Trott left the tour of Australia late last year due to a stress-related illness – but recently made a promising comeback to competitive cricket for Warwickshire in the County Championship.

"It's great for him to be back with Warwickshire. This is a good place and the dressing room is a good environment," said Bell.

"It's a great club to play for and now he can get his head down and just worry about scoring runs – just like all of us. It's a case of don't worry about international cricket for the next six weeks.

"He is a quality player. We will see that with Warwickshire and hopefully we can all start the season really well and get off and running strongly from the first day of the season."

The English have tough series against Sri Lanka and India on the horizon and while Bell has all but sealed a berth in the squad, Trott's participation remains in the balance. The talented Jonny Bairstow, too, is in doubt after fracturing a finger recently.

"All the selection stuff is out of our control. You have just got to let that happen and concentrate on putting it in for Warwickshire," added Bell.

"He has still got plenty to offer England. Having played a lot of cricket with Trotty and been in a batting unit with him for a long time, I know that when he is playing at his best he makes that England team a better team."
