The 32-year-old Trott left England's Ashes tour of Australia last November and announced another break from the game earlier this week.

"I hope he can get through this and get back on the park," Warner admitted to the BBC, adding that "went a little too far " when he branded Trott "weak" for leaving the tour.

"If he does, we'll keep playing the brand of cricket we do, with that aggressive, in-your-face attitude.

"I've always been as honest as I can in the media and I'll continue to do that.

"My comments were probably over the top at that time, when I didn't know there was a problem with Trott."

The South African-born Trott returned to England after the first Test in Brisbane – where he made 10 and nine – as Australia won by 381 runs.

He made a comeback for Warwickshire during the first game of the domestic season against Sussex, but announced that he will spend further time on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his problem.

"I have decided it is best for all involved that I continue my recovery on the sidelines for the time being," the South-Africa-born batsman said.

Warner agreed with Trott about extending his stay on the sidelines, adding that he should only return to the fold if he is completely fit.

"If you feel like you can't give 100 percent and commit 100 percent then he's done the right thing," Warner added.

"What happened to him last year and what he said in his recent interview shows he's got problems."
