England batsman Moeen Ali has been told to remove his controversial 'Save Gaza' and 'Free Palestine' wristbands by match referee David Boon, after catching attention during day two of the third Test against India.

The Worcestershire man wore the wristbands all day in the field, and was defended by the ECB for doing so, saying it was a 'humanitarian' statement, not a political one. But Boon disagreed after looking into the matter.

The statement said on Tuesday: "The ICC Equipment and Clothing Regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.

"Moeen Ali was told by the Match Referee that whilst he is free to express his views on such causes away from the cricket field, he is not permitted to wear the wristbands on the field of play and warned not to wear the bands again during an international match."

Meanwhile, England will wear Help for Heroes branding on day three at the Rose Bowl, in support of the charity for soldiers injured in the line of duty.
