Fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have climbed to fifth and ninth position respectively in the International Cricket Council's rankings for Test bowlers, after England's innings and 24-run defeat over India at Old Trafford.
Anderson clinched five wickets and Broad six in the fourth Test in Manchester, where the hosts secured a two-one series lead ahead of the decider at The Oval in London this week – and England and India's five ODIs.
Spinner Moeen Ali, has been propelled to a career-best 33rd berth after clinching a second-innings four-wicket haul. The talented Joe Root, meanwhile, has moved to 14th position in the ICC's rankings for Test batsmen.
Root struck a century in the series opener at Trent Bridge – and has amassed a half-ton in each of the three matches since. The right-handed Ian Bell has progressed to 17th spot, while wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler's rearguard half-century brought a move to 55th.
In the ICC rankings for Test all-rounders, India's Ravichandran Ashwin has displaced South Africa's Vernon Philander at the top, while Broad has moved ahead of Australian Mitchell Johnson in fourth position. Australia v India and Australia v Pakistan is imminent, when Johnson will have the chance to regain ground.
