England wicketkeeper-batsman Matt Prior will undergo Achilles surgery later this year.

The injured sidelined Prior from the final three Tests of the ongoing five-match series against India. He was replaced the talented Jos Buttler.

"I'm still hurt, I've seen the specialists and surgeons and everything else. I'm having an operation on 4 September on my Achilles," Prior told ESPNcricinfo.

"My Achilles has been the main issue, it's been pretty bad, to be honest. It's not the end, but there is a long road back and it starts from 4 September with four months of rehabilitation to get as fit as I possibly can."

The 23-year-old Buttler has enjoyed a successful graduation to the longest format of the international game. He scored a quickfire half-century and took six catches on debut in Southampton – and secured two more dismissals and another half-ton in Manchester.

"I think Jos has done brilliantly. The one thing he has done that is massive for 'keepers is scoring runs. When you're scoring runs it takes pressure off your wicketkeeping. Jos has done brilliantly and good luck to him," added Prior.
