England could play the fifth and final ODI against India at Headingley without the services of Ian Bell, after the batsman picked up a fractured big toe i Birmingham on Tuesday.

Bell was struck on the foot during training ahead of the fourth match, and was replaced in the starting XI by Gary Ballance. He then went for scans, where a hairline fracture was discovered.

The ECB said on Twitter: "Ian Bell update: X-ray of left big toe shows small fracture. Batsman will be assessed ahead of the fifth Royal London ODI in Leeds."

If Bell is ruled out of the game, which is on 5 September, then Ballance is likely to keep his place, despite scoring just seven runs at Edgbaston.
