Trott signs three-year deal with Warwickshire
Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott has signed a three-year contract extension with the Bears, keeping him in Birmingham until 2017, capping off a difficult year for the former England number three.
It was a heart-warming announcement, given Trott’s struggles this year. He left the Ashes tour to Australia late last year, citing mental exhaustion, and at one stage it didn’t look like he’d play again.
In April, he made his first of two comebacks, but only managed a few weeks in the spotlight before withdrawing again. When he did come back later on in the season, he quickly found form with the bat.
Trott said upon penning his deal: “Warwickshire CCC is a very special club for me and my family and I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for their support.
“It has always been a great honour to represent the Bears and I am delighted to commit to the club once again for a further three years.
“Hopefully we can build on the success of this year by achieving greater success in the years to come.”
Dougie Brown, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire CCC, added: “Jonathan played some of the best cricket of his career in the second half of last season and he showed that he remains one of the leading batsmen in the English game.
“It’s been great to see him enjoying his cricket and make such a big contribution to the team’s strong finish to the season. He loves Warwickshire and playing cricket at Edgbaston, and everyone connected with the Club is thrilled to see him commit long-term.”
