India's batsmen fare better than bowlers

India's tour match against Derbyshire at the County Ground, though not counting as a First Class game, was a profitable one for the visiting batsmen, but not so much for the bowlers.

Derbyshire batted on day one and declared at stumps, having scored 326 for five, and India's bowlers looking toothless. Ben Slater, Billy Godleman, Wes Durston and Harvey Hosain all made half centuries.

Ishant Sharma was particularly disappointing, as he was in the first game against Leicestershire, as his persistent no-ball problem continued. He overstepped a whopping nine times in 12 overs, a stat that will make England's players happy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar went wicketless, but bowled economically, while Ravi Jadeja was the best of the 10 bowlers to send the ball down. He took two wickets for 27 runs. Even MS Dhoni had a bowl, going for 11 runs in his one over.

The second day saw India batting, and Cheteshwar Pujara was the star at the top of the order. Openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were both out early, both making six runs, before Pujara and the middle order added the runs.

Virat Kohli was solid for his 36, while Dhoni and Jadeja made 46 and 45 respectively. At the end of the day, declaring on 341 for six, Stuart Binny was unbeaten on 81, pushing for a place in the Test XI.
