Watson: India will have a tough time in Oz
Australia all-rounder Shane Watson says that while India beat them four nil the last time they faced each other in a Test series, the boot will be on the other foot later this year when India go Down Under.
Australia all-rounder Shane Watson says that while India beat them four nil the last time they faced each other in a Test series, the boot will be on the other foot later this year when India go Down Under.
The Aussies were in a terrible place within the team when they went to India last year, and the infamous 'homework' saga happened during that tour, but since then they have won the Ashes at home, and beaten number one Test side South Africa on Proteas' soil.
Watson told PTI: "We're playing some very good tough Test cricket. We beat South Africa on their home soil which was a huge achievement for us as well. So under all these conditions, we're certainly going to be hard to beat.
"It's certainly a totally different unit to what we were in the Test series we played in India. We had a lot of issues that were going on in and around our team. So it's certainly a very different environment now that we've got."
He added that as his side had a tough time adapting to Indian conditions, so India will similarly have a hard time Down Under: "Certainly the conditions that we played here in India during the Test series were very extreme to what we would ever face in Australia.
"So, the Indians would have to come over and adjust to the pace and bounce and wickets, with how we are as a team. We are a much better and tighter unit and playing much smarter cricket, specially Test cricket."
Australia did not have a successful time during the recent World Twenty20, losing three of four games, while Watson himself also had a poor tournament. He was hopeful of getting some form back with the Royals.
He added: "I was very poor in the last Twenty20 World Cup. But the previous Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka I got 'Player of the Series'. So I have to say that I would replicate that pretty well.
"But certainly most in recent memory, which is the Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh, I was very poor.. so I'm certainly hoping that I could turn that around this IPL."
