I've attended a few press conferences in my time, but none as entertaining as Younis Khan's production at The Oval on Saturday.

Flying in the face of what's generally expected at these things - meaningless dribble from the losing captain, winning captain and Man of the Match - Younis offered nothing of the sort as he happily uttered priceless quotes by the mouthful in the wake of his team's drubbing at the hands of England.

While it was opposing skipper Paul Collingwood who spooned out the norm - 'Great to win', 'Credit to KP' and so forth - Khan left the British media giggling in disbelief and their Pakistani counterparts hanging their heads in embarrassment.

His puzzlement at the hapless fielding - namely that of Salman Butt - and carefree response toward the loss provided enough on the atypical front, however his retort to a couple of questions in particular took the preposterous cake.

One brave journalist proposed the idea that Khan - as a senior player - bat higher in the order, to which the animated veteran replied: "So you want me to open the batting, okay I will open the batting next time."

Another asked if Younis was missing the services of Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar. "I miss my home, I miss my family, I miss a lot of things," came the tongue-in-cheek reply.

Those final remarks saw the growing snigger graduated to boisterous laughter and along with it even more respect lost for a side severely short on it as it is.

As all and sundry left the room chuckling amongst themselves with an obliviously embarrassed Younis in their wake, one writer jokingly heralded a potential headline as 'Pakistan Skipper Couldn't Give A F***'. While such a statement may be rather untoward, I'm left wondering how it is Khan expects to instill confidence on the field when it's all being undone behind the mic.

Perhaps he needs to pay Wasim Akram, or at least that hypnotist a visit for a bit of a brush-up on captaincy how-to going forward...?
