Inzamam: Afghanistan have to play home games

Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq believes Afghanistan's cricket will only improve if they organise international matches in their own country.

Inzamam was Afghanistan's coach for six months, as recently as the World T20 in India, which also coincided with the country's most successful period in it's short international history.

The Asian side beat Zimbabwe in ODI and T20I series home and away on their way to 12 victories out of 17 T20Is, including memorably beating champions West Indies in the World T20 Super 10s.

Although he has applauded the Afghanistan cricket board for organising domestic one-day and T20 tournaments in their own country, Inzamam knows the importance of home games if the Associate side want to continue to grow.

Inzamam was quoted as saying on ESPNcricinfo: "Afghanistan cricket is in it's infancy. If they want to reach the levels that Test sides are expected to be at, they have to organise international cricket there. They have to.

"Maybe they could attract some of the up-and-comers in Associate circles to visit. But if they fail in that task, I simply don't believe they can continue to progress like they're capable.

"It is imperative that Afghanistan cricket does well. You cannot imagine how passionate Afghanistan's fans are, and how they live and die by every result."
