Scotland get close to record Ireland total

Ireland posted their joint-highest ODI score of 331 for 6 to record their third consecutive win of the tri-series against Scotland.

The men in green have made a brilliant start to the tournament that also includes hosts the UAE winning all their matches so far – making them a good use of the ladbrokes bonus code for bets.

Powerful opening batsman Paul Stirling gave Ireland an excellent platform with his 74 off 88 balls.

Stirling lost his opening partner William Porterfield (6) early on to the bowling of Scotland quick Stuart Whittingham (3 for 58).

Four Irish batsmen posted scores in the 40s but Niall O’Brien (51) would also pass fifty for the newest ICC full member.

Kevin O’Brien (46) and Gary Wilson (40*) gave Ireland a flying finish with their 85 runs stand coming in just eight overs.

Scotland gave a good account of themselves in the chase and were able to just about stay in the game, at one stage they were 124 for 1, before falling 24 runs short of the Irish score in their fifty overs.

There were fifties for Scotland’s Michael Jones (74), Calum MacLeod (58), and Michael Leask (59).

Ireland’s bowling effort was led by George Dockrell who returned figures of 2 for 43 in eight overs but a special mention has to go to Boyd Rankin who was the most economical bowler on either side finishing with 1 for 39 from his ten overs.

Ireland have now won their last their last four successive ODIs having ended their series against Afghanistan with a win.
