Warwickshire's hopes of securing a second LV County Championship win of the season were held up by a Glamorgan recovery after the home side were asked to follow on for the third match running.

David Hemp and Jamie Dalrymple both scored half-centuries as Glamorgan battled their way back on the third day at Cardiff.

After being bowled out in their first innings for 248 with James Anyon recording career-best figures of six for 82, Glamorgan batted again still 173 behind.

They were reduced again to 99 for three before Hemp and Dalrymple put on 107 in 26 overs for the fourth wicket.

At the close Glamorgan were 221 for four, a lead of 48.

At the start of the day it was a different story as Glamorgan lost their last five first-innings wickets in the space of 23 overs before lunch.

It meant they were forced to follow on for the third consecutive match after innings defeats to Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

Resuming on 183 for five still needing another 89 to avoid the follow-on, Glamorgan were bowled out 21 minutes before lunch.

Alex Wharf only lasted until the third over of the day when he was caught behind off Chris Woakes to leave the home side 187 for six.

Robert Croft and Mark Wallace perished in the space of five overs. Croft chopped Neil Carter onto his stumps and Wallace was caught behind down the leg side to give Anyon his fourth victim.

Jason Gillespie did his best to try to get Glamorgan up towards the follow-on figure but both he and last man David Harrison were out in the same Anyon over.

Following on, Gareth Rees and Matthew Wood batted relatively sensibly to record their highest partnership of the season - 71 - beating the previous best of 57 in the first innings.

But in good batting conditions both batsmen went in the space of five overs. Both were adjudged leg before on the back foot, Wood going to Anyon and Rees perishing to Ant Botha.

In the penultimate over before tea Carter made further inroads when the out-of-form Michael Powell was bowled to leave his side 99 for three.

But Hemp and Dalrymple showed some rare resistance from the home side as the Warwickshire seamers started to tire.

Dropped on 29 by Botha in the gully off Anyon, Hemp went on to complete a 106-ball half-century before he was caught behind off Jonathan Trott's first over of the innings.

But Dalrymple continued the rearguard as he also went to his half-century from 70 balls.
