Zimbabwe-born all-rounder Sean Ervine is hopeful a fruitful stint for the Duronto Rajshanti in the Bangladesh Premier League will catch the eye of the England selectors.
The 29-year-old, who last year turned down a berth in his country of birth's World Cup squad to continue his time at Hampshire, will complete his four-year England residency qualification in April.
The hard-hitting left-hander is eager to follow in the footsteps of Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan, both of whom were born outside of England.
"I want to do well in the BPL and then play well for Hampshire and if I can do two good years then hopefully get a call-up," Ervine told BBC Radio Solent.
"I've had to come back to try to qualify for my eligibility. This is my last year and hopefully I am going to fulfil that. Basically it is April to April for four years and you have to do 210 days in the country for four years. Then I qualify for England and then hopefully go on for selection."
The BPL is the Bangladeshi answer to Indian Premier League, which revolutionised cricket when it burst on to the scene in 2008 with an entertaining blend of international players, Twenty20 matches and celebrity glamour.
Indian company Game On bought the rights of the first six editions of BPL for $44 million dollars last year. Six franchises were bought by Bangladeshi companies, with a minimum price of one million dollars.
"It's very exciting. They are trying to copy the IPL and is another opportunity for me to impress and hopefully get into something like the IPL later," added Ervine.
The competition runs from 9 to 28 February.
