Tim Bresnan could take part in England's limited-overs series against Pakistan despite being ruled out of the tour by injury.

The all-rounder underwent surgery on his elbow in December but was expected to be fit for the start of England's stay in the UAE. However, after experiencing discomfort in the build-up to the first Test he was sent home.

Having made a satisfactory recovery, the Yorkshireman underwent a fitness test at Headingley on Thursday and will do so again on Friday. Should the results indicate he is up to making an international return, there is a chance he will immediately join his team-mates in the Middle East.

Following the conclusion of the third Test, which got underway on Friday, the two teams will do battle in four ODIs and three T20Is.
