New Zealand Cricket announced on Wednesday that Mark Gillespie will replace Adam Milne in the Black Caps' Twenty20 squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa.
Milne sustained an Achilles injury while completing warm-up exercises just prior the Plunket Shield match between the Central Stags and Wellington Firebirds this week.
The NZC medical team said although it was not considered serious at this stage, they did not want to risk further injury so made the decision for Milne to remain in New Zealand.
He will undergo a period of rehabilitation and continue to be monitored closely by NZC and Central Districts medical staff.
National Selection Manager, Kim Littlejohn said, "It is disappointing for Adam to suffer an injury however it does present a great opportunity for Mark.
"Mark has an impressive record in South Africa and the conditions will suit his aggressive style of pace bowling."
Gillespie will join the Kiwis squad in South Africa on Friday.
