Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan will chase redemption this month, when a second stint in international cricket will afford him the chance to improve on some otherwise shoddy statistics.

Irfan made his ODI debut against England at Chester-le-Street in September 2010, when he copped plenty of expense and went without a wicket. Two days later, in the second match of the five-fixture affair, he was equally as fruitless.

He was not picked again for the remainder of the tour, and has since been biding his time for the Multan Tigers and Khan Research Laboratories in domestic cricket.

A particularly impressive stretch of form this season, to the extent of 11 wickets in seven T20 fixtures, has seen him recalled to the Pakistan squad for the Twenty20 International series against India.

"I was very tense as I watched television when they announced the team. It was really quiet when the announcement was being made but the telephone hasn't stopped ringing since," said Irfan.

"I was put under tremendous pressure in that first game of mine against England, as I was flown in and then asked to play at short notice. I was suffering from jet lag and had fitness issues.

"Of course I was also nervous. All these issues affected my performance but all that is in the past. I have worked very hard and if given the chance, I will be ready for the big occasion."

The lanky seamer cherished the support and input of head coach Dav Whatmore and bowling coach Mohammad Akram, who have aided the injury-prone 30-year-old's ambition to maintain match fitness for relatively long periods.

"Dav provided me with a lot of confidence for which I am really thankful. I have spoken to Mohammed Akram on many occasions too. They have been very happy with my bowling and also given advice to me on my physical fitness and bowling," he added.

"I have been concentrating on my physical fitness as well as fielding. As you know, with my height, I need to work a little more to be able to field well, but the main thing for me is that I have a lot of confidence in my own ability."

The tour, which will also feature three ODIs, begins on 25 December, when the sub-continental rivals clash for the first T20I in Bangalore.
