England will be without fast bowler James Anderson and batsman Jonathan Trott for the ODI series against India in January, while Joe Root has been added to the T20 squad to replace the injured Stuart Broad.

Anderson was a key player for England during the Test series, taking 12 wickets as the stand-out fast bowler from either side. But he will now be allowed to take a break as Woakes gets his name n the list.

"Woakes and Buttler replace Anderson and Trott in [the] India ODI squad as [the] selectors look to manage workloads," the ECB said in a statement.

Root, who made his debut in impressive fashion in the fourth Test, scoring 73 and then 20 not out, was added to the T20 side after captain Broad picked up a foot injury. The side will be captained by Eoin Morgan.
