Sri Lanka have called up batsman Lahiru Thirimanne and seamer Suranga Lakmal to their squad ahead of the third and final Test against Australia, which gets underway in Sydney next week.

The hosts lost fast bowler Chanaka Welegedara and batsman Kumar Sangakkara to respective hamstring and hand injuries during their innings and 201-run defeat in Melbourne.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Prassana Jayawardene and seamer Nuwan Kulasekara's participation in the remainder of the tour, meanwhile, hangs in the balance - as they nurse respective thumb and rib injuries.

Thirimanne had been on Sri Lanka's standby list for the tour, and therefore had already secured visa clearance to enter the country. He will arrive on the first day of the new year.

Lakmal, however, had not been on standby, and will have to wait for his visa to be approved on 31 December. He is likely to arrive in Sydney on the eve of the match.
