Australia seamer James Faulkner has been fined 10 percent of his match fee after verbally abusing West Indies batsman Chris Gayle in Wednesday's third ODI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Faulkner accepted the charge of "using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match" after bowling Gayle in the 38th over of the Windies' unsuccessful pursuit.

"There is no place for this type of behaviour anywhere near the game. The players are expected to respect the opponents all the time. In this particular incident, James crossed the line and I'm sure he will learn from this incident," said match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

The Aussies won the fixture by 39 runs on the back of opener Shane Watson's century and Faulkner's four-wicket haul, to take an unassailable three-nil lead in the five-match series. The fourth ODI gets underway in Sydney on Friday. Melbourne will host the final match.
