Wahab Riaz ruled out of Test series

Pakistan’s list of lost players has grown again, with fast bowler Wahab Riaz ruled out of the Test series against Australia in the UAE with a knee injury.

Riaz picked up the injury during the second ODI, and further scans revealed more damage than anticipated. He joins Mohammad Hafeez and Junaid Khan on the list of exiting players.

A statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board read: “The MRI report reveals significant bone damage and damage to the cartilage under the knee cap and suspicion of a tear. The joint is also mildly swollen.

“Riaz has been advised to undergo a two to three week rest and rehab period before considering a return to impact and bowling.”

Riaz took three wickets in the three-match series, with Australia won with a whitewash. The first Test starts on 22 October.
