- Started out as an opening batsman, like his dad, Chris, before a sudden growth spurt convinced him to take up bowling because "I can't just stand around in the field all day".
- Within 18 months he was playing for England Under-19s.
- Started his international cricket in one-dayers and the young Broad impressed with his composure
- Played in the World Twenty20 where he entered cricket lore, but perhaps not the way he intended, as Yuvraj Singh clattered him for 36 in one over.
- Although now primarily a bowler, his early batting promise has not disappeared.
- Broad finally lived up to expectations during the 2009 Ashes. He nearly bowled England to victory with 6 for 91 in the fourth Test, but his defining moment was in the fifth game when his five for 37 helped the hosts to reclaim the Urn.
- He was at it again against South Africa in Durban a few months later when his four for 43 saw England to an innings victory.
- Part of England's World Twenty20-winning team in the Caribbean.
