- An allrounder who has a very aggressive batting approach.
- Took 7 for 36 in a 2008 Test Against New Zealand in Chittagong to record the best Test bowling figures by a Bangladesh player.
- Once again he took a liking to New Zealand, scoring his maiden Test century at Hamilton in February 2010.
- Some impressive batting displays led his team to the final of a tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in 2009. His scores included 92 not out which powered Bangladesh to victory over Sri Lanka.
- Took over the national captaincy from the injured Mashrafe Mortaza for the July 2010 tour of the West Indies and led Bangladesh to their first Test Series win on foreign soil, admittedly against a second string West Indies.
- Won the man-of-the-series award in the two Test series against the West Indies.
