- Test Debut v West Indies at St George's, June 2002
- ODI debut v Zimbabwe at Wellington, January 2001.
- An established figure in domestic cricket before his all-round capabilities earned him a Test place.
- Was a seam bowler who was forced to focus on his batting after a knee injury, and was successful enough to become a batsman who can take some weight off the bowlers.
- Was supposed to win his first Test cap at the Karachi Test in May 2002, but a bomb blast led to the cancellation of the match.
- Scored a century and a half century when he eventually made his Test debut against West Indies on the tour of the Caribbean.
- In 2005 signed with English county Middlesex before joining Durham in 2007.
- Injuries meant he missed much of the 2006 season but recovered to take part in 2007 CB series and earn a place in the Kiwis World Cup squad.
- Plays for the Deecan Chargers in the IPL.
- In 2008 Styris announced his retirement from Test cricket.
