- ODI debut v Sri Lanka at Napier in December 2006.

- Shone in New Zealand domestic cricket as a specialist death bowler.

- Struck by a ball below the eye while batting in 2005 and suffered multiple fractures and a smashed eye socket.

- Represented New Zealand A in the Top-End series in 2006 and was named in New Zealand's final squad of 14 for the Champions Trophy although he didn't get a game.

- Had an inconsistant series in Australia the follwoing winter but still earned a 2007 World Cup spot.

- Gillespie's progress has at times been hampered by multiple injuries.
