- Suffered at the hands of the Australian batsmen on his first Ashes Tour in 2002-03, and played only 1 Test at home in 2003.
- Bounced back to form the following winter, capped with a brilliant hat-trick against the West Indies at Barbados, in April 2004.
- His match total of 12 for 205 in Johannesburg clinched England's first series win over South Africa since the end of apartheid.
