- Captained England in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup, hitting two centuries in leading them to the semi-finals.

- A stylish left-handed opener, Cook scored 104 on Test debut in India. He was the 16th England batsman to make a ton on debut.

- Followed this up with centuries in the first two Tests against Pakistan in 2006, including his batting best of 127.
