- Test debut v Pakistan at Lord's - May 2001.
- ODI debut v Zimbabwe at Harare - October 2001.
- The aggressive left-arm seamer with his long locks followed in father Arnie's footsteps when he won an England cap in 2001. However, it was not a debut to remember for him personally as he went wicketless during the match.
- He had to wait another six years before he won another Test cap and this time he made it stick as he claimed eight wickets in the match to help England to an innings victory over the West Indies.
- The wickets came regularly after that and he reached the zenith in the first Test against New Zealand in 2008 when he not only claimed his first 10-wicket match haul, but also became only the 11th Englishman to claim a Test hat-trick. He finished with 24 wickets in the series and followed it up with another 17 in the return leg against the Kiwis at home.
- Things went downhill for the fiery swing bowler after that as he picked up injury after injury.
- He was a member of the 2009 Ashes squad, but didn't play a game and his stock gradually decreased.
- He was a surprise inclusion for the fourth Test against South Africa in Johannesburg and failed to repay the selectors' faith by picking up just 2 for 98.
- Despite a string of poor performances he was also selected for the tour of Bangladesh in 2010 and included in the England World Twenty20 squad for the Caribbean.
- Kept James Anderson out of the XI in the Caribbean and played a starring role as England walked off with the trophy.
