- Test debut v India at Chennai - December 2008

- T20I debut v New Zealand at Auckland - February 2008
- Supremely self-confident off-spinner and handy lower-order batsman.
- Had to wait for his chance at the top level after first earning an England call-up in the late 90s.
- Finally got his chance on the tour of India in late 2008 and outbowled spin rival Monty Panesar.
- Established himself as England's first-choice spinner ahead of the Ashes series with impressive displays home and away against West Indies.
- Played a crucial role with his off-breaks - including an eight-wicket haul in the final Test in Cardiff - as England regained the Ashes in 2009.
- The Ashes though was just a sign of things to come as he starred with bat and ball to help square the Test series in South Africa. He topped the bowling charts with 21 wickets and also chipped in with 171 runs.
- He became the first England spinner to pick up more than 50 wickets in a year in 2009.
- Secured his maiden 10-wicket match haul against Bangladesh in March 2010 when he picked up five in each innings.
