- Was in the England A squad before he had even played a first-class game.
- The diminutive Read is widely regarded as the best glovesman in English cricket.
- When Alec Stewart retired Read was given his chance and despite an immaculate performance behind the stumps during the 2004 tour in the West Indies he was controversially dropped in favour of Geraint Jones due to poor batting.
- His batting has improved, Read scored a brisk 100 on the England A tour of the West Indies in 2006 and has now been rewarded with a place behind the stumps for the third Test against Pakistan.
